ASIAGO
FESTIVAL 41st Edition
PRESS RELEASE
“MUSIC OF THE TEMPLE” AT ASIAGO FESTIVAL Wednesday, Aug. 15, at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
An evening of music and meditation, what Asiago Festival proposes for Wednesday, August 15, at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Asiago (beginning at 9 p.m. – admission free) “Music of the Temple” is the title of the evocative program of music from the Judeo-Christian tradition that Julius Berger, artistic director of the Festival, has conceived and will perform with his cello, supported by the voices of Alessandra Fontana and Alberto Spadarotto who will read some of the 150 poetic texts contained in the Psalter, the repertory
of Psalms of different genre and tempo intended for singing in the Jewish Synagogue and also passed into the Christian liturgy. Texts, in short, in which the two religions are recognized and intertwined through their poetic expression of religious experiences.
The proposal of music for solo cello by some composers such as Ernest Bloch (a composer of Jewish origin who wrote a series of compositions related to the religiosity of his people, recovering and transforming their rhythms) and Max Bruch (whose music was even banned in anti-Semitic Germany) will be followed by moments of unprecedented suggestion, for the asiaghese festival: those of the reading of the Psalms acompanied by cantillations intoned by the cello, which will impart even greater expressiveness to the texts, especially in the solemnity of the great church of St. Matthew.
An evening of meditation and recollection, then, where music will give way to poetry, to merge into it in a unique expression of emotions, imagination, spirituality and meaning.
