Born in Anyang, Korea, Wan Yoo began studying the cello at the age of 13. After only two years of study, he was admitted to Sunhwa Arts High School in 2006. The following year he won first prize in the J&R Chamber Music Competition. He then continued his studies at Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) with Kang-Ho Lee, Hyung-Won Chang and Noll Park. After completing his Bachelor’s degree, he undertook a Master’s degree at the Leopold Mozart Zentrum of the University of Augsburg, Germany, studying with Julius Berger, Hyun-Jung Berger and Julien Chappot.

During this time, he was recognized as one of the brightest students of renowned cellist and teacher Julius Berger.Wan Yoo has also participated in master classes with renowned cellists such as Arto Noras, David Geringas, Clive Greensmith, Tilmann Wick, and Maximilian Hornung. He was awarded third place in the Johann Andreas Stein Competition in 2015. He has performed as a soloist with the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra (Russia), the Korean National Police Orchestra, and the Concertino Ensemble Augsburg.

He has held various orchestral roles: first cello with the Korean National Police Orchestra, assistant cellist in the SAC Festival Orchestra, trainee with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and guest member of the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra.Wan Yoo is also known as an arranger: he has written numerous arrangements for the seven-violin ensemble, the Cellopassionato Ensemble, the KNUA Cello Ensemble, and others. Since 2018, he has held the position of assistant first cello with the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra.
