Purcell opens Asiagofestival.

The prestigious festival opens its 51st edition with a narrated concert on music by the great composer, a leading exponent of English Baroque.

Asiagofestival will be inaugurated in an original way with an open-air event for everyone, adults and children alike, holding true to the 2017 edition’s purpose of connecting generations of musicians and listeners.

The concert will be held on Tuesday, August 8 , at 5 p.m. at Asiago ‘s Millepini Park with “The Peacock Princess,” a musical fairy tale told to songs from Henry Purcell‘s The Fairy Queen . On stage theEnsemble Ludus Musicae directed by Elena Fattambrini, artistic director of the Castelli e Ville in Musica festival across the foothills of the Veneto region, will be joined by the acting voices of Angela Graziani and Pippo Gentile, founders of the Ullallà Association and experts in theater and animation for children and young people. During the “fairy tale concert,” the audience will be led by the hand into the kingdom of Magnolia, the City of Peacocks, for a challenge between fierce princesses.

Purcell’s music will also be the alpha and omega of Asiagofestival and in fact it will be his Dido and Aeneas that will conclude the festival on August 17.

In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at 9 p.m. in the auditorium of the Asiago Elementary Schools.

Asiagofestival continues on Thursday, August 10, with a concert by organist Karel Martinek at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
