MICHAEL WEHRMEYER

Michael Wehrmeyer was born in Berlin in 2002 to a Russian-German family of musicians. He began studying the cello at the age of 4. After initial lessons in Berlin and Regensburg, he joined Hyun-Jung Berger’s cello class at the Leopold Mozart Centrum in Augsburg in 2016. Other cellists had an important impact on Michael’s training, such as Julius Berger, Ivan Monighetti, Frans Helmerson, Kian Soltani, and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. He participated in the project “TONALi” poresso the Krongberg Academy. Since 2021 Michael has been awarded a scholarship from the Liechtenstein International Academy of Music. His success in competitions includes semi-finals at the “International Penderecki Competition” in Krakowand multiple first prizes at the “Jugend musiziert” competition in 2014 and 2019. He was also awarded the “Music Prize of the City of Regensburg” in 2019. Michael’s repertoire includes works ranging from baroque to contemporary music. In addition to his intense participation in the activity of the ensemble “Cellopassionato,” Michael also has experience as an orchestral player, for example in the ranks of the “German National Youth Orchestra,” with which he has played torunees in countries such as Canada and South Africa. He plays an instrument by Anton Posch, made in Vienna between 1710 and 1720, generously offered to him by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben foundation.
