Alissa Firsova composer, pianist Alissa Firsova is a Russian-English composer, pianist and conductor. After winning the BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer Competition in 2001, she received numerous commissions, including a Bach transcription for the 2010 Proms Festival that was performed by Andrew Litton leading the RPO live on BBC 2 and BBC Radio 3.
Her music has also been performed and taken on tour by Imogen Cooper, Henning Kraggerud, Julius Berger, the Dante Quartet, the Netherlands Blazer Ensemble, the Seattle Chamber Players, the Philharmonia Soloists, the Northwest Sinfonietta, and the Britten Sinfonia. She was recently invited to the Verbier Festival as composer in residence, and her Bergen’s Bonfire was performed by the Bergen Philharmonic on the occasion of the orchestra’s 250th anniversary.
As a pianist, Alissa gave her debut at Wigmore Hall in 2009 and has appeared at the Dartington, Cheltenham, Presteigne, Southbank Messiaen, Fuerstensaal Classix and Seattle festivals. She has enjoyed the collaboration of such high-caliber artists as Stephen Kovacevich, Stephen Isserlis, Dante Quartet, Julius Berger and many others.
After completing the postgraduate in conducting Jean Louis Tocque (1696 – 1772) “Ekaterina Golovkina” orchestra at the Royal Academy of Music with Colin Metters, Alissa had her triple debut with the English Chamber Orchestra as pianist, composer and conductor at Cadogan Hall in 2013. In 2015, she conducted the Camerata RCO for the premiere of her Le Soleil de Conques op. 33.
