Presented in the press as a “devilish violinist” and as “an original, authentic artist,” young German violinist Linus Roth is on the best path to achieving an important career. Anne-Sophie Mutter, who has supported him with her Foundation, commended him with the words, “the young artist has developed into an undisputed musical sensibility and virtuosity.”
Linus Roth has performed as soloist with various orchestras, such as the Berliner Radiosinfonieorchester, the SWR Orchester Kaiserlautern, the Munchner Symphonikern, the Wutterbergischen Philarmonie Reutlingen, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the State Philharmonic of Macedonia, the Novosibirk Philharmonic, the Capella Istrapolitana Bratislava, the Kiev State Opera Orchestra, the Munchner Kammerorchester, the Wurttembergischen Kammerorchester Heilbronn, the Kammerorchester Detmold, and the Stuttgartner Kammerorchester. For several years already he has been playing in a duo with Argentine pianist Jose Gallardo. The duo has performed numerous concerts worldwide and radio and television recordings for SWR and Deutschlandfunk Koln.
Linus Roth was born in 1977 in Ravensburg, and began his musical studies at the age of six. At age 12 he entered Prof. Nicolas Chumachenco’s class at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg. From 1993 he perfected his studies at the Lübeck Conservatory with Prof. Zakhar Bron, with whom he graduated. In 2000 he continued his studies at the Faculty of Music and Theater in Zurich with Prof. Ana Chumachenco, earning his soloist diploma. Big names have influenced his musical training: Anne-Sophie Mutter, Josef Rissin, Juri Bashmet, Hermann Krebbers and Salvatore Accardo at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
In his career, he has won important prizes and awards, including first prize at the “Jugend Musiziert” competition in Germany, first prize at the International Violin Competition in Novosibirk, first prize at the German Music Competition in Berlin, and the Special Prize of the “Schumannhaus Bonn e V.” Foundation for the best interpretation of a work by Robert Schumann, and the Bruno Frey Prize of the Baden Wurttemberg State Academy of Music.
From 1998 until the completion of his studies in 2003, Linus Roth was a fellow of the “Freundkreis Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung e.V.” foundation.
Since 1997 he has been playing Antonio Stradivari’s “Dancla” violin from 1703, courtesy of the Music Foundation of the “Landesbank Baden-Wurttemberg.”
