Marlis Neumann
Canadian-born harpist Marlis Neumann studied with Taka Kling at the University of Victoria , continued her musical training with Judy Loman in Toronto, Canada, with Helga Storck at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and with Vicky Müller at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Germany.
Sought after as a soloist and chamber musician, Marlis has performed at numerous international festivals including the A-DEVantgarde Festival in Munich, the Munich Biennale,in Germany, the Cantiere d’Arte in Montepulciano,in Italy, the Franz Reinl Foundation in Vienna,in Austria, the Polish-German Harp Symposium in Krakow, the International Harp Festival in Katowice,in Poland, the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik in Frankfurt, and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, in Germany.
Her deep interest in contemporary music has led her to perform world premieres and first performances of works by many prominent composers, including Wolfgang Rihm, Mauricio Kagel, Wilhelm Killmayer, Moritz Eggert, Tan Dun, Ennio Morricone, Peter Kiesewetter, Sandeep Bhagwati, and Markus Schmitt.
Marlis has performed with the Munich Chamber Orchestra for more than 20 years and teaches harp at numerous institutions, including Augsburg University. Her performances have been documented in several productions on CD, radio and television.
