Christian Bertoncello was born in 1989 in Bolzano in a family of musicians. When he was only 6 years old he began playing the cello under the guidance of Giorgia Postinghel. Four years later he was studying at the conservatory “C. Monteverdi” with Prof. Giuseppe Momo and Nicola Baroni. After graduating at a very young age, he furthered his studies with Umberto Clerici and is currently studying in Julius Berger’s class at the “Leopold-Mozart Zentrum” of the University of Augsburg. He completed his studies by performing several “master classes” with Wolfgang Böttcher, Xenia Jankovic, Heidi Litschauer, Julius Berger, Umberto Clerici, and others. He has performed as a soloist in Italy, Austria, Germany, and Croatia. Some of his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television (RAI). Due to his interest in chamber music he has been intensively active in “ensembles,” attending master classes and collaborating with such artists as Paul Roczek and Victor Yampolsky (Rachmaninov Trio Moscow). From a very young age he became a member of several youth orchestras. Most recently he was a member of the “European Philharmonic Orchestra” and from the Academy of the “Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.” From September 2010 he will be a member of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Christian Bertoncello plays a cello by Wojciech Topa from 2008.
